THE ROAD TO PARADISE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION? - SYMPOSIUM

On Friday 6th of June 2014 and in the framework of the European program «HEAVEN ON EARTH?», a Pan European Symposium with the title "The road to paradise is under construction?" will be held at Eleusis City Hall at Eleusis with participants from England, Spain, Turkey, France and Italy. Presentations and discussions on Jean Genet and the issues arising from his life and his work, as: relationship between art and crime, punishment , criminal justice system and society, theater and its social and political role, art in 'marginalized' groups, etc.
The symposium is addressed to actors - drama school students - dancers - choreographers - theatrologists.

Impressions for the Workshop of Illustrations Confuses

The second seminar of the European program "Heaven on Earth?", by our partners from France Dimitri Rekatchevski and Tonia Vasilakou, was held in the fully equipped modern studio Griffon, in Plaka .
In this tutorial we contacted the principles of Physical Theatre, where, through various exercises, the body leads to the formation of characters and situations , and with the principles of Mime and gestures (gestus) designed to bring the clarity and accuracy of actor on stage. There was an alloy of exercises and improvisations by Michael Chekhov, Marcel Marceau, Etienne Decroux, Jaques Lecoq and Meyerhold .
Day 1: Starting from contacting the ground, we activated our solar plexus, which then, began to mobilize more and more parts of the body and this energy flow was spread in 5 levels - first to the ground, then sitting, then finding balance relying on as few parts of the body as possible, after that standing having our gravity low and finally, as high as possible. Then, there were exercises to engage our gaze with any point which attracts our interest in space, and the corresponding motion to obtain this fantastic item. Also, we experimented having another row of these three stages, which created a recollection of each point chosen, within the body and the gaze. With mime exercises of Decroux, on one level, we isolated body parts from absolute slackness in absolute alertness with techniques such as the imaginary " hook " that either pulls us either we pull it. We felt an invisible magnet between both our wrists, which evolved into an improvisation of a prisoner, wearing white neutral masks and , energy succeeding one another, we invented ways of liberation.
Day 2: We began with a practice of Alexander technique, where the basin begins a small oscillation and ends to drift over the body, again in 5 levels . We repeated the previous exercises of isolation of Decroux, this time in all three dimensions of space and continued with some improvisations. Non- human, spontaneous improvisations of "ravishing" a non-earthy entity or of "selling" an imaginary product or other spontaneous movements unlocked non- daily actions , which were incorporated in a large group surreal improvisation on the dark world of the port described by Genet . Starting completely empty , with only a small physical memory, we built a world of "ravish" and "sell" of ourselves to him who had the role of the client, until there was anger and sacrifice of the human body, in the end.

Day 3 : We embodied the motion of the snail’s antennas in slow motion or acceleration, either alone or interacting in groups of three and then enriched even further the Decroux exercises, which led to non – emotional, broken movements, trying not to mean anything at all and going against any music sounded. Then we experimented by moving the worn neutral mask and within the logic of a mask that follows the lines of a fictional flag, we passed at the next masked improvisations; two lovers communicate, one from the world of the living and the other from the world of the dead, the author communicates with his muse, two ghosts annoy a living, who is trying to sleep . Finally, without masks, at groups of three, we improvised on “the Maids” of Genet where we incorporated many of the techniques that we got these three days.

In closing, we discussed with Dimitri and Tonia about our experiences during these three days - the ones we learned, and what they learned from us. Thus ended a very beautiful and really full 3-day workshop with two stunning and highly cooperative people

WORKSHOP OF "ILLUSTRATIONS CONFUSES"

Taking as a start the elements of the contemporary approaches on mime and physical theatre, where corporeal techniques are in a constant dialogue with other forms of fine arts, this workshop has the aim of the acquisition of organic capacities on the dramatic expression. The purpose is for the actor to become autonomous as a creator and a performer, through physical movement, and personal choices on the style. The study of units dealing with the corporeal expression of thoughts and feelings, personal march, musicality of actor’s movement, animalism in the art, use of mask and other material will be necessary.
The workshop is addressed to actors with advanced physical and directing knowledge and it will help them to develop their acting skills through improvisations and personal creations.

‐ Corporeal approach of the Theatre du Mouvement (as much as it is possible of the following: expression of thoughts and feelings, personal march, musicality in movement, the
animalism, mask and other material)

‐ Corporal improvisations
‐ Dramaturgic notions for physical composition

"Heaven On Earth?" is a performing arts project engaging artists from Greece, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, France and Italy, inspired by famous novelist, playwright and activist Jean Genet (Paris, 1910-1986). It focuses on the artistic interpretation and research of Genet's works and philosophy as well as the exploration of issues stemming from his cultural legacy.

Αυτό το τριών ημερών εντατικό εργαστήριο έχει σχεδιαστεί έτσι ώστε οι καλλιτέχνες να αναπτύξουν τις υποκριτικές τους ικανότητες. Λαμβάνοντας ως αφετηρία τα στοιχεία σύγχρονων προσεγγίσεων της μιμικής και του σωματικού θεάτρου, οι σωματικές τεχνικές θα είναι σε συνεχή διάλογο με τις άλλες μορφές των εικαστικών τεχνών με στόχο την ανάπτυξη της ικανότητας της δραματικής έκφρασης. Ο σκοπός είναι για τον καλλιτέχνη να αυτονομηθεί ως δημιουργός και ερμηνευτής, μέσα από την σωματική του κίνηση.
Το σεμινάριο θα επικεντρωθεί στην σωματική έκφραση των σκέψεων και συναισθημάτων, τη μουσικότητα της κίνησης και τη χρήση της μάσκας, καθώς και σε θέματα γύρω από την βία και την εξουσία.

Το σεμινάριο θα διεξαχθεί από τους Ντιμίτρι Ρεκατσέβσκυ και Αντωνία Βασιλάκου, ιδρυτικά μέλη της ομάδας Illustrations Confuses.

Θα πραγματοποιηθούν σεμινάρια/workshops από επωνύμους καλλιτέχνες. Όλα τα σεμινάρια θα πραγματοποιηθούν πάνω σε θεματικές εμπνευσμένες από τα κείμενα του Ζενέ, εφαρμοσμένα στις παραστατικές τέχνες. Θέματα όπως η εξουσία, η δικαιοσύνη, η φυλάκιση και το σωφρονιστικό σύστημα, η προδοσία και η μοναξιά, η αγάπη, η σεξουαλικότητα, η πορνεία, η βία, το έγκλημα και η τιμωρία, οι φόβοι και η υπαρξιακή αγωνία θα εξερευνηθούν, με τελικό αποτέλεσμα Ευρωπαϊκή παράσταση.

Les Marcheurs de la Pluie à Montréal

NUIT BLANCHE- Scènes Brèves Sans Drame

Les artistes Dimitri Rekatchevski et Mélanie Thibault, en partenariat avec la Place des arts, présenteront Scènes Brèves Sans Drame, dans le cadre de la nuit blanche clôturant la 9e édition du Festival Montréal en Lumières. en grande première nord- américaine, l’œuvre articulée en trois performances prendra place dans l’enceinte de la 5e salle de la Place des arts de 23h10 à 2h40 durant la nuit du Samedi 25 février.
Interprétés par le Coup de Pouce Vue sur la Relève 2011, Mélanie Thibault et les artistes Vincent Langlois et Dimitri Rekatchevski, Scènes Brèves Sans Drame ne manquera pas d’impressionner les festivaliers qui parcouront les différentes activités culturelles du centre-ville de Montréal.
Créé en 2004, le spectacle en trois tableaux sera présenté pour une première fois dans la métropole après avoir été chaleureusement accueilli par les publics et la presse de nombreux festivals de rue en France, au Liban, en Grèce, en Espagne et en Russie. L’oeuvre use d’intéressantes combinaisons de formes organiques et géométriques en récreant un microcosme peuplé d’étranges créatures. Un travail laborieux ou les références littéraires se mêlent aux arts de la rue.

Dimitri Rekatchevski et Mélanie Thibault se sont croisés à l’École internationale de mimodrame de Paris Marcel Marceau. Tous deux inspirés par des formes nouvelles, ils ont collaboré sur plusieurs spectacles dont Princesse brambilla d’e.T.a. Hoffmann (2003) et Interventions en rouge de la Cie B.I.S, inspiré d’Augusto Boal (2004). de 2004 à 2006, Dimitri conçoit les scènes brèves qu’ils tournent ensemble indépendamment, selon les besoins des Festivals de rue. L’aventure se poursuit à montréal, après le retour de mélanie dans son pays d’origine où elle joue Comment ceci devient cela, solo d’une heure qu’elle chorégraphie sur des textes que dimitri a écrits pour elle. Le spectacle, joué au Luxembourg en 2005 est repris en 2010 et présenté au Festival Vue sur la Relève pour lequel Mélanie remporte deux Coups de pouce.

RAIN MARCHERS (Marcheurs de la pluie)



« Rain Marchers » is a spectacle where elements of physical theatre and dance are combined into a performance based on the notions of the plasmatic body and the art brut.

Caracters: Six beings into their “umbrellic cocoons”. 

Plot: Into a dark and humid place, luminous and lonely creatures are wandering around into their cellophanic cardigans.  During their course they move, stop, form spirals; they discover and are being discovered. Scarcely thought do they leave their transparent nests to reveal their interior identity.  The communication with their homologues is impermanent until their final union and the beginning of a new itinerary. 


The performance « Rain Marchers » has been presented into the Festival Mimos, Beyrouth Street Festival, Festival de Trop and to The Printemps de la Démocratie with the title « Les Marcheurs du Temps ». It is planified to be part of the 3rd International Street Theatre Festival of Athens.

In this occasion the Illustrations Confuses will be presented on the Art Market of the Kakoyiannis Institution everyday from 11am to 9pm, with material of its previous performances.
Dimitri Rekatchevski will also hold a seminar about Directing the physical theatre, on Kakoyiannis Institution on the  2nd of July at 12.30.   

IAM4MIME

IAM4Mime est un spectacle vivant de mime mêlant décors amovible et projection vidéo interactive. Derrière un paravent support de projection, un mime dialogue avec des objets réels, virtuels et sa silhouette interactive. Ce spectacle d’une vingtaine de minutes nous plonge dans une confusion onirique entre réel et réalité virtuelle. 
IAM4Mime est influencé à la fois par deux univers : celui du Mime et celui du théâtre d'ombres chinoises. Le parti pris est donc de mettre en valeur le corps à travers sa silhouette, l'idée est donc d'utiliser peu d'artifices en fond, plutôt des aplats vifs colorés. La pantomime est rythmée par des compositions sonores d'inspiration tsigane et des improvisations au piano pré-enregistrées. Aussi les objets virtuels génèrent des sons, notamment lors de leur chute sur le sol. Cela donne du poids aux objets et créé l'impression de collision.

IAM4Mime utilise le logiciel 3DVIA Virtools ainsi qu’un dispositif de motion capture OPTITRACK afin de reconstituer la scène en virtuel pour la mise en scène d'objets et d'avatars. Ces derniers représentés sous forme de silhouettes dialogueront de façon interactive avec l'acteur. Plusieurs marqueurs (ou trackers) sont placés sur le paravent ainsi que sur les mains du Mime pour, d'une part, localiser les différents éléments de la scène, d'autre part, repérer l'acteur. On obtient ainsi leurs coordonnées dans l'espace qui sont ensuite traitées par 3DVIA Virtools en 3D temps réel. Le vidéoprojecteur projette en silhouette des éléments virtuels qui interagissent ainsi en temps réel avec le mime. Le paravent modulaire « tracké » peut prendre plusieurs configurations, à savoir en L ou couloir, ce qui permet une liberté artistique en reconfigurant l'espace au gré de
l'improvisation. 
INTERACTIONS DANS LE VIRTUEL :
Dans cette scénographie interactive, l'acteur manipule des objets virtuels en trois dimensions (au moyen du tracking) mais avec un retour visuel en deux dimensions sur le paravent. Le mime est ainsi immergé dans un décor manipulable en 3D seulement visible en 2D. En outre, le mime peut aussi manipuler une chaise réelle.
